From her grandparents' grocery store and dinner parties to the family restaurant, her passion for food started early on. After she married a chef, her mother-in-law taught her the art of preserving, and so our story began. Wanting to create something new with a great balance of spice and flavour, Spicy Tomato Savoury Spread was born. This next-level replacement for ketchup on your favourite burger became our first product and best seller. She started selling it at the local Farmers' Markets to rave reviews. Building a jam factory on a small island is no easy feat, but Salt Spring Island is a special place filled with resourceful and creative people. As the company grew, Melanie recognized the opportunity to provide meaningful employment and allow locals to remain connected to family, nature, and community without leaving the island. Our rural west coast setting continues to inspire how we grow as a company and the impact we have. From Melanie's home kitchen and handwritten labels, eleven years later we still make everything in small batches with quality ingredients. The Jam Factory now includes a full-scale production kitchen, retail shop, tasting room, and a growing team of more than a dozen amazing folks. Our full collection of savoury, spicy, and sweet creations are perfect for pairing with cheese and charcuterie or spreading liberally on your favourite sandwiches.
